Last class at Eyebeam today. Going to miss it. Ramsey and Kaho you made amazing games, and inspired me to get into game design. Aaron made me delve into music more than ever! And Jonah you were incredibly cool, taught valuable lessons in hacking, and showed us the glory of the Internet. And Erica thanks for the awesome hospitality and being the best Day Camp counselor ever! Won’t ever look at tech the same way again thanks to you guys. And thanks to the friends I made. You guys made this the best Summer a teen could ever want.

I’ve been making a ton of new music today using iMaschine. Check it out on my soundcloud account!

I have learned so much since i begun classes here. I love the app “iMaschine”, which I am using to make a lot of new music. A few weeks ago, I would never be able to do that on my own. I now understand many ways of creating new songs through sampling, editing, and remixing other people’s sounds to create my own!

In the past few weeks in Mobile Music in the Cloud we learned to make sound files and learned abut the different types of files and licenses that allow artists to publish works/sounds that give other people access to them for no charge. http://creativecommons.org http://freesound.org
In the Scrapyard Challenge workshop we learned how to make DrawBots, an original design by Jonah Brucker-Cohen, one of the instructors of the course.

I love the App that SC showed us the polisynth. Basically where we take a picture anywhere and depending on what picture it was it would make a different sound. Never saw that before in my life!!

My (Jacob) final composition is progressing nicely. Save for messing with the tempo, I have finished it. I will post it when that is done.

About:

Taught by WorldUP!'s Interactive Music Director, SpazeCraft One, Teens become innovative sound designers/music makers using accessible and open source hardware, software, and web tools.

These concepts are explored in two separate but related classes. Scrapyard Challenge teaches participants electroacoustic sound-making using physical computing tools. Teens will build simple electronic music controllers out of found or discarded “junk”.

In Mobile Music in the Cloud teens learn sound design and sound synthesis using mobile apps and on-line music making tools.

Eyebeam is proud to partner with World Up! to provide Digital Day Camp. A fellow member of the Hive NYC Learning Network, World Up brings a multitude of methods in creative exploration, cultural expression, and media literacy.
